A Little Bit of Allison: The Smell of Rain

I do feel bad that I have abandoned this blog. So to those of you who read it, I am sorry. I'm also sorry that I wasn't able to come up with any poems, so this rare post is just a regular post. Ah well, at least it's something, right?

So, it doesn't rain a whole lot in good old Idaho, but when it does, it sure makes me happy. My odd love of rain may have stemmed from the fact that I did a large portion of growing up in Washington. I don't know why this is, but my favorite thing about rain is the smell. It's so clean and fresh smelling, and there's really nothing else like it. I always love when you can tell it's going to rain, because you can smell it. It brings a sort of comfort along with it, for me anyways. I've found, as I've spent more time observing things that I like, that I really react to smells. So when it does rain, it brings me back to the time when life was much simpler. I don't know if other people have the same reaction to scents, but that's what they do for me. For example, if I use a scented body wash that I haven't used in a while, or just switched back to that particular scent, I always am reminded of what was happening in my life during the time when I first started using it. It's really weird now that I actually spell it out, but this happens a lot. It's even to the extent that I shy away from certain scents and Bath and Body Works because I used them at a time in my life that I don't care to remember anymore. So, I guess it's good that I associate the smell of rain with a good time in my life, because that's one you can't really get away from.

I am slightly disappointed this didn't turn out longer, but how much can you say about the smell of rain? It's an amazing smell and I'm glad that sometimes Idaho graces me with it. Until next time!
